Indecisive Weather.
After a week of sun and much warmer than normal temps, the snow is heading back our way...

Take a Walk on the Wild Side.
I looked out my office window this afternoon and was startled to see this mother and calf across the alley in someone's yard! In the middle of town... They were helping themselves to the new buds on the trees. Our warm weather has the trees budding about 6 weeks early.
After a bit of exploring and a snack, mom and calf strolled on down the alley and out of sight. I was told by my coworkers that they have been sighted in town several times this past week. I hope they stay safe...

Gold!!
What an amazing and fitting ending to the 2010 Olympics! Canada had never won gold on home soil before these games - now we have the most gold medals in winter games of any nation - ever! Twenty six medals in total, fourteen of them gold.
But it's been more than medals - the olympic spirit has been felt everywhere and in everything, and courage, grace and perseverance have been the themes of the games in a way I don't remember seeing before.
Canada - the True North Strong and Free!

Afternoon Moon.
This is the first moon I've seen in a month. Between clouds, fog, cold nights and a unhelpful moon cycle, I was losing hope that I would be able to get another shot before spring! This was taken in mid afternoon, and is more noisy than I would like - but I'm pleased I got it at all...

More reminders of the Olympics. I'm having a blast watching the games. Part of me wishes I was there - the party looks great! But part of me cringes at the lines - 6 hours to ride the zip line? No thanks!

Day Three!
It's just so exciting hosting the Olympics in my home province! I live up in the north, a good 12 hours away from the games, but have been to Vancouver and Whistler many times - it's really cool to share them with the world.
And just in case you thought I forgot - this is the sleeve of the official olympic teddy bear that I got my beautiful wife for Valentine's Day (or, as it's known in our house - 'Dite Day - for the amazing Aphrodite...) I love you, honey!

When I arrive to work each morning I'm greeted with the sound of birdsong. Today they finally showed me their hideout - they've made a winter nest in the wall of the building where the hydro lines come out. There is a small entrance above the sparrow here.

Golden Time.
The day was sunny (finally!) and I took a drive just before sunset. I wanted to catch the golden colours of the setting sun. Unfortuantely, I ended up knee deep in a snow drift, and had to cut short my time... Of the shots I took before I got soaking wet, I liked this one the best.

January 2010 Mosiac
Days 215 - 245 of my first Project 365. I must admit, I'm somewhat surprised (and more than a bit pleased) that I have not yet missed a day!
January was the hardest month yet. The weather was gloomy and nasty - gray skies and snow at least 3 weeks out of 4, and the lack of colour seemed to zap me of any imagination. But there are a few shots that I'm happy with. And on to February!

Creating Fire.
Well - fake fire... We had to take the wood stove insert out of our hearth, and were left with a weird Beetlejuice open hole that - at 22C below - was sucking all the heat out of the house. The household budget won't allow for another insert right now, so we got one of those fake fire heaters with the mantle to cover the hole. I spent the afternoon building the mantle, and - tada! Fire! Well, not really... But, heat! Yes!

Warming Up in January.
Northeastern BC in January is cold. It's generally the coldest part of the province. The average high temp this past week has been -9C except - in my office. The radiator in my office is broken, and the offices on the other end of the floor have no heat. My colleagues are working in their parkas.
In the meantime, the radiator in my office and the ones next to me are trying to heat the entire floor. We can't turn them off - control is at Regional, 4 hours away. The last few days it's been +30C, or worse.
So I couldn't help but have Lilo (of Lilo and Stitch fame) do a hula dance in honour of the tropics in my office! You'll notice the temp is 31C. 88F. HOT!!
