Project 365 ~ March 2010

Days 274 to 304 of my project 365. March was somewhat uninspiring because spring has not yet arrived in the north. The snow is old and dirty, and nothing is green - just gray and slushy and muddy. Yuck. So I ended up taking lots of closeup/macro shots, and catching the birds that have returned.

Project 365 ~ Day 304

Out of Shadow into Light.

Quick shot of a sparrow in the tree outside my house. I used my zoom lens at 300m, and then cropped. In the original photo all was in deep shadow except for the bird himself - hence the title.

Project 365 ~ Day 301

Almost Full.

Another clear night, making two in a row! The moon was extremely bright, making it difficult to get detail. I'm pleased with this result.

Project 365 ~ Day 300

March Moon.

Between clouds, snow, and a uncooperative lunar cycle, I've been unable to spot the moon for weeks. Tonight it finally showed itself at dusk, although it was cloaked in a soft haze that made it almost impossible to get a really sharp shot. The was the best of the bunch.

Project 365 ~ Day 298

Young Raven.

This young raven was "playing" with a second one (seen at top of picture.) They were passing a piece of bark back and forth, putting it into the other's open beak. I was told that the game teaches them how to fee their young...

Project 365 ~ Day 295

Wait...What?...

When I said spring was on the way, apparently I spoke too soon, and the birds are freezing! A few days ago it was 12C, now we have 8 inches of snow on the ground and a continuing snowfall warning... Ahh - spring in the north!...

I caught Auto watching me from behind a table. What do cats think about?

Project 365 ~ Day 291

Office Still Life.

This is what greeted me when I arrived at my office this morning. I supervise a bunch of counsellors, and our offices are filled with dolls, toys, and stuffies. The Janitor enjoys creating scenes with the toys (it's very sweet and always G rated) and I especially enjoyed this one.

I have another pic of this scene taken a couple of months ago, when the snow was above the low branch. It's finally going away - slowly...

Project 365 ~ Day 281

Endurance.

The snow really started piling up just after Halloween around here, and has finally begun to melt. I noticed this jackolantern peeking out of the melting snow just yesterday. It's very well preserved, considering it's been buried for 5 months!

Project 365 ~ Day 275

Take a Walk on the Wild Side.

I looked out my office window this afternoon and was startled to see this mother and calf across the alley in someone's yard! In the middle of town... They were helping themselves to the new buds on the trees. Our warm weather has the trees budding about 6 weeks early.

After a bit of exploring and a snack, mom and calf strolled on down the alley and out of sight. I was told by my coworkers that they have been sighted in town several times this past week. I hope they stay safe...
