Project 365 ~ Day 273

Gold!!

What an amazing and fitting ending to the 2010 Olympics! Canada had never won gold on home soil before these games - now we have the most gold medals in winter games of any nation - ever! Twenty six medals in total, fourteen of them gold.

But it's been more than medals - the olympic spirit has been felt everywhere and in everything, and courage, grace and perseverance have been the themes of the games in a way I don't remember seeing before.

Canada - the True North Strong and Free!

Soaking Up the Sun.

Warmer temps these last few days have had Ares up on the cat tree soaking up rays through the picture window...

Project 365 ~ Day 266

Afternoon Moon.

This is the first moon I've seen in a month. Between clouds, fog, cold nights and a unhelpful moon cycle, I was losing hope that I would be able to get another shot before spring! This was taken in mid afternoon, and is more noisy than I would like - but I'm pleased I got it at all...

Vancouver!

More reminders of the Olympics. I'm having a blast watching the games. Part of me wishes I was there - the party looks great! But part of me cringes at the lines - 6 hours to ride the zip line? No thanks!

Project 365 ~ Day 262

Crazy Funky Fish Cookies.

We had a Jamacian themed potluck at work and a colleague made some colourful cookies. I used Topaz Adjust and then Topaz Simplify to achieve the effect seen here.

Holographic Olympics.

All the licensed Olympic merchandise has this really cool hologram on it - I couldn't help but try and capture it!

Project 365 ~ Day 260

Believe.

We are very proud of our Canadian Olympians here in the north. My neighbour built this funky and cool tribute to the athletes - a skiier with the Canadian, BC, and Olympic flags and our ongoing motto - BELIEVE!

Project 365 ~ Day 259

Day Three!

It's just so exciting hosting the Olympics in my home province! I live up in the north, a good 12 hours away from the games, but have been to Vancouver and Whistler many times - it's really cool to share them with the world.

And just in case you thought I forgot - this is the sleeve of the official olympic teddy bear that I got my beautiful wife for Valentine's Day (or, as it's known in our house - 'Dite Day - for the amazing Aphrodite...) I love you, honey!

The Crossroads...

Interesting prints under the trees - looks like the birds were unsure of which way to go!

Project 365 ~ Day 257

Welcome, World!

The Olympic Opening Ceremony was all kinds of amazing, and I took some really cool screen shots. Of them all, I love this the best. This is a shot of the crowd as the Canadian team entered the stadium. I used Topaz Simplify to give it a painting effect.

In Lieu of Spring.

More cold and gray outside. These gel flowers give me colour all winter, blooming on my office door.

My little man. Isn't he sweet? Effect achieved with Topaz Adjust plugin.

Project 365 ~ Day 254

Standing Watch.

When I arrive to work each morning I'm greeted with the sound of birdsong. Today they finally showed me their hideout - they've made a winter nest in the wall of the building where the hydro lines come out. There is a small entrance above the sparrow here.

A coworker's bouquet served as inspiration today. The roses were fading, but still beautiful...

Super Bowl!

Wow - what a game! Though I'm a Colts fan, I couldn't help but feel ok about the Saints' win. As for the pic, I wanted to catch the graphic that was used with the replays, but it was so fast! This was the best I got....

Project 365 ~ Day 251

Golden Time.

The day was sunny (finally!) and I took a drive just before sunset. I wanted to catch the golden colours of the setting sun. Unfortuantely, I ended up knee deep in a snow drift, and had to cut short my time... Of the shots I took before I got soaking wet, I liked this one the best.

Project 365 ~ Day 250

National Treasure.

In honour of the pending Olympics in Vancouver, I offer the world a coffee. Tim Horton's coffee - affectionally known as Timmy's in these parts - is a Canadian treasure, and proof of our superiority! LOL Sorry, Dunkin' Donuts... !

More ice. I could do an entire collection of ice. It's easy when you live on Hoth...

Ice Every Direction.

The melting/freezing off the roof made an unusual icicle in the front tree. I have no idea how they freeze sideways!

Light and Dark.

More snow, more gray and more gloom equals more pictures of the furkids. Auto again makes a dashing subject...

Project 365 ~ Day 246

Moonset.

The day dawned partly sunny, which enabled me to see the sunrise, and to catch the moon as it disappeared into the clouds above the hillside. The moon was huge - I just hope we get clear skies one night this week so I can get a picture of it in all it's glory...
