Looking @ 2010 ~ Week 34
I travelled up to Ft. Nelson for work, and was able to go north one day with a colleague, taking in the change of scenery. This is the view from the Alaska Highway, about an hour north of Ft. Nelson. It was a really cloudy, rainy day, and the sky never made an appearance. I want to go back when it's sunny.

Looking @ 2010 ~ Week 33
Smokey Moon.
There are currently over 400 wildfires burning across the province, and the smoke seems to be everywhere. It coloured the moon a deep brown on this night. Hopefully the expected rain will help.

End of the Season...
The weather is changing - summer has given way to cool days and cooler nights, the geese are leaving in droves, and the crop is ready for harvest.

Laughing Dragon.
The Fall Fair was this weekend, and it was a lot of fun! Only in the north do you have a "Fall" fair in early August... I entered 10 photos, and got 4 ribbons - three 2nd places and a 1st place!

...Not a Gaggle - Just a Pair...
In case you diddn't know, you have to have at least 5 geese to make up a gaggle, and they must not be flying.

Looking @ 2010 ~ Week 29
My mom passed away on July 20, after a long illness. She loved moonlight. I took this from the balcony of my parents' condo, in honour of her. The view of the moon is a bit different in Nashville, being so far southeast from BC.

I usually don't take insect pics, but was lucky to get a couple of bees working hard to pollinate the flowers I was shooting.

Moon through the trees...
This was not a fruitful week - scheduling and weather kept me from getting out to shoot. Even a holiday long weekend didn't help. Between Sunday, June 27 and Saturday, July 3, my only decent shots were of the moon...

Looking @ 2010 ~ Week 25
Our short season is finally giving us a variety of beautiful flowers, gowing under hot sunny skies. Summer in the north is short - but oh, so wonderful. (HDR effect achieved with Topaz Adjust Plugin.)

Looking @ 2010 ~ Week 24
The moon showed her profile, and I was able to get some really clear and sharp shots. She was low in the sky - hence the brownish tinge.

The daisies aare back, growing wild all over my yard and up through the gravel of my driveway! I hate to mow the grass!

My neighbour says that these flowers are on a wild cherry tree, but I'm not sure. I love this photo, though...

I love the look of these, though I have no idea what they are! They were growing in mass in a flower bed down the street, and were quite lovely.

Looking @ 2010 ~ Week 21
This creek filled with spring runoff was enhanced with the Topaz Simplify plugin for photoshop elements. I like how it takes a rather boring shot and turns it into something more. I'm focusing my weekly shots on natural scenes, but this was so pretty I had to include it.

A new field, big sky, and a barn in the distance. It must be spring in the countryside...

After the dandelions, the next flowers to brave the spring were the daffodils.

Though the snow was finally gone, nothing was growing yet. So I fell back on cut flowers to give me colour.

This photo of a Great Blue Heron was a very close second to the Oklahoma Redbud - so much so that I really wanted to include it. I saw several Blue Herons in Nashville, and loved getting the shot of this one next to an algae covered pond.

Looking @ 2010 ~ Week 14
With the north still snow covered, I ventured south to Nashville for a holiday. The Oklahoma Redbud was in full bloom, and it was stunning. I drank in the colour.

This young raven was one of a pair who were playing a game of passing a twig back and forth. It was fun to watch!

The sparrows and chickadees returned to my front yard this week! Still cold, with lots of snow - but a sure sign that spring is coming!

Looking @ 2010 ~ Week 9 Honourable Mention
Though I love the moon shot, I couldn't let the week pass without including the mother and calf that wandered down the back alley behind my office one Tuesday afternoon. This is how you know you live in the rural north!

I love this shot of the moon setting behind the windmills at the edge of town.
